Joel Laudenbach DMDIn April 2018, Dr. Laudenbach was appointed to Atrium Health (formerly Carolinas HealthCare System) as an Assistant Professor of Oral Medicine/attending medical staff in the Department of Oral Medicine in Charlotte, North Carolina.  He practices Oral Medicine at the Carolinas Center for Oral Health and is attending faculty at Carolinas Medical Center for the Oral Medicine and General Practice Residency post-graduate programs.

Dr. Laudenbach is a Expert Viewpoints writer, Expert Witness Consultant, published author and has been a guest editor for the Journal of the California Dental Association and American Academy of Oral Medicine Clinicians’ Guide series.  Dr. Laudenbach provides educational courses to dental, medical and health care professional societies, study clubs and postgraduate training programs locally, nationally and internationally.

Dr. Laudenbach’s Biography:

Dr. Joel Laudenbach received his DMD from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine in 1998. Academic appointments in Los Angeles between 1999 and 2002 included the University of Southern California (USC) and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Schools of Dentistry. While at USC, he was a pre-clinical, restorative instructor teaching pre-doctoral students. While at UCLA (2000-2002), Dr. Laudenbach was the director of the Oral Diagnosis & New Patient Admissions Clinic, a lecturer and an academic administrator.

Dr. Laudenbach completed postdoctoral residencies in general practice (GPR) at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles (1999) and Oral Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania (2004). He also completed a fellowship in Geriatric Dentistry at the University of Pennsylvania (2004). After completing his fellowship, he was recruited by Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery in New York City. He was an assistant professor and the director of geriatric dentistry, as well as an appointed attending and dental director on the staff of New York-Presbyterian Hospital. He maintained a private oral medicine practice in Philadelphia from 2004-2011 and was awarded “Top Dentist” for Oral Medicine by Philadelphia Magazine in February 2012.  Dr. Laudenbach served as a clinical assistant professor of oral medicine at The University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine from 2005 to 2007. From 2007 until June 2010, Dr. Laudenbach was an assistant professor and clinic chief of hospital and geriatric dentistry in the Department of Oral Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Dentistry. He was also an attending on the medical staff at the Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago.

In June 2010, Dr. Laudenbach returned to Los Angeles and started a new, private oral medicine practice in Beverly Hills & Tarzana.  From 2010 to 2011, Dr. Laudenbach was a faculty member in the Section of Oral Medicine and Orofacial Pain at the UCLA School of Dentistry and rejoined Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.  Dr. Laudenbach practiced in Beverly Hills, California from 2010 – 2015.  Dr. Laudenbach is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Medicine and maintained a private oral medicine practice in Tarzana, California from 2010 – 2017.  In 2017, Dr. Laudenbach started 2 new private practice locations: (1) Mission Viejo, CA within a well-established Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery practice – Orange County Centers for Oral Surgery and Implants , and (2) Pasadena, CA within a well-established Periodontics practice – Pasadena Periodontal Associates . Colleagues selected him as a “Southern California Super Dentist” in 2014, 2015, 2016 & 2017 (published in Los Angeles Magazine).  Dr. Laudenbach is a Past-President of the Southern California Academy of Oral Pathology.


Dr. Laudenbach was the Coordinator of the Advanced Oral Diagnosis Workgroup, Faculty Representative, and Assistant Professor of Oral Medicine & Geriatric Dentistry at Western University of Health Sciences College of Dental Medicine in Pomona, California while appointed from 2011 – 2018.  Dr. Laudenbach was an adjunct faculty member for the Family Medicine Residency and Urgent Care Fellowship programs at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center while appointed at WesternU.  He remains appointed at WesternU as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Oral Medicine & Geriatric Dentistry.  Dr. Laudenbach is appointed as medical staff at: Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (Division of Dentistry & Oral Surgery, Department of Surgery) and Century City Outpatient Surgery Center.
